What do you get when Peter Jefferies, Robbie Muir, David Mitchell and Alaistair Galbraith jump on the good ship fuzz boat and tempt us with one album? Well generally people wanting more. So in Oct 2000 the Dunedin docklands prepared themselves for the a one off adventure on the rolling sea that was Plagal Grind at Sammy's. This is the bootleg.

Anyone who has heard the classic compilation album Killing Capitalism with Kindness would possibly know the name Nigel Bunn. And that's about all I ever knew of his musical output until stumbling over this on Ebay. Apparently coerced into existence via the pleading whines of Alastair Galbraith, it seemingly spans quite a few years. One of Dunedin's finest bedroom loop/noise masters, I picture him in some sort of Len Lye afterlife with a pleasant grin.

Before the golden age of drone shitgoblets took over every of the known acres, there existed many who had plugged away at simple structures and angles. This is sort of where Sunken sit. A collaboration between Stefan Neville and Anthony Milton. The lovely reed organ has quite a prominence here and Stefan's intercom interplay does it's duty.

So I never actually saw them play. The one time they came to Brisbane I was asleep in a Newcastle gutter. This was recorded by Jen from Go Genre Everything (I think), that's about all I sort of know, Zach's last gig apparently.

But fuck me, how good are their releases.

They all ventured off to play in other bands, mostly as boring as shit.

Part two of the Hurdy Gurdy praise and worthy. This would rank as my second in the list of Neck releases ('Sex' being number one), and certainly not due to any failings. I caught Abrahams last week doing a solo set in a small pub to nobody, was stunning. Many moons ago in the dark bowels of a certain radio station young men did once do 6 hr Necks programming whenever they toured, I partook in a couple of these scrabble and coffee medleys, never had a better time on the faders. The boys (bad pun hey) came in once for an interview and seemed a little perplexed why people did such things...

The first in a two part upload of my favorite Hurdy Gurdy pieces, or as in will be called from now on "Find one, send it to me, I'll make you a cake, we'll both laugh at the Spanish".

This double cd was about all I had (apart from 'I said, this is the son of nihilism') prior to live Haino back in the glory days that were What Is Music. Really appreciated the show, had a wondefully small collaberation with Merzbow at the end. This was the Brisbane outing, I missed the much famed Melbourne set that seems to have divided many.

Solo chunky noise guitar wonder from one of the main protagonists in the Lost Domain, David Mac Kinnon. Certainly not quiet on the delivery as the alluded to 6 fuzzboxes scruzz about with gusto. Recorded over 7 years from 1990-1997, truly a wonderful outing of which I wish more would appear. There were cassette releases from early Shy Tone days, but I've never encountered them.

A Shy Tone records wonderbeast featuring Lost Domain personal amongst others. Superflat tone sharks on high hunt for scrape twitch material would be advised to bend over and prepare. Hear the bottle from drunk punter being hurled at them in track one, feel the breeze from the rooftop recording isobar life of the other two. Or just enjoy.

I can't actually recall from where this came, it just appeared , like that exposed sense of joy at 3am post libation jerk swill, stagger and slump, when you find yourself in a timber yard hollering 'Helen Rytka was my food cunt!'. As far as I can gather this is their fist actual live performance from 2005...13 years after gestation... lazier than me = respect. RRR records beast, one track, noiseflankumptious as one would expect.

This trio have been putting out records since fuck knows when, mostly I have them on the viynls, though this came in a cd.. hence you win. For those entirely bored, I actually played Baritone for about 8 years and would love to again, so if you see one in a gutter or just lazing about, send it my way.

Yep, change is afoot! Well operating system anyway, finally installed Mint on this machine so now you'll have the fun of dealing with .ogg for music and tar/bzip for folders. I'm sure with your mighty skills and common sense of will all will work itself out via the search engine of your choice. Godspeed!

Michael Morley's other noise outing, this time a collection of sorts from earlier lathes, cassettes etc.. featuring David Merrit, Julian Dashper and Robbie Yeats on certain tracks of glory. Enjoy the implanted solo from everyones favourite metal cumscum on the second last track 'Mett'.

The flow on band for a couple of the Alpaca Brothers members and also featuring the ever bashworthy Robbie Yeats. My first encounter to them came from the compilation 'Killing Capitalism with Kindness'. After I'd just about driven a certain housemate, several 4zzzfm listeners and a pair of lace speakers insane with Galbraiths pirate like classic 'Macquarie Island', I ventured forth onto other tracks and fell for Trash like a fuckturd to a leafblower. Also worth tracking down (it does appear now and then) is the 7" by Trash under the name Brown Velvet Couch.

Hawkes Bay's finest postgay outfit, seriously impressive live if you ever have the chance. I've been known to waste half my phone credit calling their shows through live to people living 2000kms away...hi Graeme... This offering is one 29:15 track, not quite there usual epoch admittedly. Some limited run thing (mine is 316/1000, no doubt somebodies bed underspace is full) out through Midium records.

I've been lucky enough to catch Bill and Jules play a couple of times when they have toured over here, always a fine outing. The subtle use of radio was my first real appreciation of what they were doing live and it flows through nicely into the recordings.

Compilation of this early 80's NZ wonderfuck of a band, who's members would later go on to partake in such noted outings as Terminals and Renderers. 'Aarson' is one of those tracks (along with Nocturnal Projections 'My Neighbours') that was designed purely to be played at 4am after stumbling in from some shitty pub.

I also have this slight fantasy of meandering down the Mekong river listening to this album..

Yo La Tengo

Whilst I'm quite a fan of Yo La Tengo, this is mainly up here due to the cover of The Dead C.'s 'Bad Politics'. I've heard rumours of this also being on a few live bootlegs, if anyone has access be in touch. The cover itself is done in good form and justice. They're massive NZ underground fans and it shows at certain points.

"Alain-fournier's Dream"

From 2001, picked this up after a set of theirs at Ric's cafe, the one long (45mins or so) track was a great representation of what they were up to round this period. Frank and Papa Lord God had a variety of tools which would appear in random whilst the constant John Henry Calvinist would chug along.

The cover comes from one of them at the time being a nurse or orderly if my drunken conversation recollections hold true.

1997 comp put together by some bunch out of Christchurch called Opprobrium, at the time these were all exclusive tracks. The Galbraith certainly re-appeared later on though.
